Enjoy Caribbean Nature
Diving/Snorkeling:
Dive or
snorkel the pristine shore reefs at Steps Beach or Desecheo Island, a
national wild refuge, 12 miles off shore. These healthy Caribbean reefs
support a great diversity of tropical fish, coral and marine life. Dive boats are
are not huge, allowing for a
personal dive experience. Water visibility is usually 100 to 150 feet. There is also great wall diving and night diving. Charters
and packages are available.
Horseback
Riding:
Enjoy scenic, coastal and
historic railroad routes that lead through forests and undeveloped
beaches. You will marvel at the spirited yet gentle nature of Puerto
Rican Paso Fino horses. Experience the natural beauty of western Puerto
Rico by horseback. Morning and sunset rides are available.
Kayaking:
Guided tours by a marine biologist
takes visitors from the town of La Parguera to the bio-luminescent bay
to the east, an excellent night excursion, especially on moonless nights.
Tours are available in the late afternoon and
early evening.
Surfing:
There are over one thousand surf breaks in Puerto Rico.
About one hundred of them all within 45 minutes of Rincón, offering reef
breaks, point breaks, shore breaks, outer reefs and river mouths, for all
skill levels. Rincón surfing became world-known after its 1968 World Surfing
Championship, and is still known today for its world class waves,
predominant offshore trade winds, and beautiful weather. Surfboard
rentals are available at our resort and lessons are
available, customized to each guest's need.
Cave Exploration
(Spelunking):
There are only two
other places in the world where you will find a cave system as massive
or dramatic as the Río Camuy Cave Park – and neither of them has a
tropical underground river running through it. If you are looking
to disconnect from the daily grind, immerse yourself into the depths of
the earth and resurface in complete awe, cave exploration is the thing
for you. In the caves, mystery and adventure are accentuated. In
complete darkness, you will be transported into an uncharted world of
wonder and explorations. You will encounter clay slides, surreal
pathways, and an immense hall created by thousands of years of natural
forming. For the
advanced spelunkers, guided excursions by highly
trained experts in the field can be arranged. We can arrange the guided tour for you or give
you driving directions and park hours for your exclusive enjoyment.
Whale Watching:
During the winter months, humpback whales
appear in the waters in front of Vista Vacation Resort. Their migration
normally occurs during their mating/calving season, January through March. The endangered humpback whale
can be seen
all along the western and northern coast of Rincon. Every year, these whales
travel
over 3,100 miles, from the waters off Greenland and
Newfoundland, to the warm waters of the Caribbean.
These beautiful and mysterious aquatic mammals can be seen communicating
with one another through breaching, swimming on their backs,
tail-lobbing (slapping their flukes on the surface) and flipper
slapping. Scuba divers and snorkelers hear the "mating
songs" of the males. The best place to view the whales is at
the Rincon Lighthouse Park; just steps away from the Vista Vacation
Resort. Or you may bring your telescope or binoculars and enjoy a private view from the comfort of your balcony.
Afternoon whale watching charters are available.
Fishing:
For the sport fisherman, Rincon is the ideal location for a great fishing
experience. Charter trips are available to the waters off Desecheo Island and
Mona Passage, which offer a wide variety of fish, including blue & white marlin, yellow
and
black fin tuna, wahoo, sailfish, dorado (mahi or dolphin), swordfish,
and more.
